Q1: We use the PPS check verification system in our branches. This tells us whether an account is open, closed, has many recent NSF returns, if the check is drawn off a participating financial institution, etc. Would we be able to use this system through our ATMs if we have the automated deposit process?
A: Deposit automation makes information regarding the check (MICR, Courtesy Amount) immediately available to the authorizing host. This information can be used to determine the appropriate course of action for the check. Whether PPS check verification can be added to the authorization process should be investigated with the authorizing host. There will be timing implications at the ATM. You may want to discuss the options with your Diebold SE.
Q2: The receipt shown in the bank's example does not happen today. We are driven by CO-OP. Does First Horizon drive their own and that is why they can string transactions and have everything deploy to the one receipt?
A: Yes, First Horizon drives its ATMs and our host controls the stringing of the transactions on the receipt. Each check that is deposited is a separate transaction with a separate sequence number and the same for the cash deposit. The images are printed on the receipt as the customer proceeds with the transaction. Once completed, the customer indicates that they have completed their deposit, and the cut: command is given to cut the receipt.
Q3: What do RECO and IQA stand for?
A: RECO Reconciliation, checking the courtesy amount and validate MICR line.

Q4: What are the common issues or concerns with the audit trail of cash deposits? Any suggestions?
A: In our environment all cash deposits were processed by branch personnel. With the BNA in the ATM, the process moves from the branch to the back office support area. A new process totally for this area. In the envelope environment if there is a machine fault the cash is still in the envelope and the deposit can be processed as usual. In the new environment, the cash is mingled in the cash drawer and now you have to find the cash so to speak. If the machine is in a low volume and checks and cash are picked up monthly, it adds to any potential problems. By far one of the biggest challenges was tying the cash deposit to the respective teller cash account.
Q5: What specs are recommended for best performance at the ATM? Meaning processor, version of Agilis etc.
A: The IDM5 will only work on Agilis 2.0 and higher.
Q6: When cash is returned and not redeposited, is there a prompt to close the cash door once the cash is removed by the cardholder? I ask because in our testing, we have experienced the door closing on our hand and it does not retract. Is there an upgrade or change to avoid this? This could be considered a safety issue.
A: We experienced the same problem and have brought it to Diebold's attention. We have been told that they are presently looking at several solutions to this problem.
Q7: Are the files that the bank referenced pulling several times a day also being submitted to the check clearing processor several times a day?
A: We place the files on the Imageway server as the transactions occur. Our item processing center has established the schedule for pulling and processing the files. These files are processed with other scheduled runs during the day.
Q8: How did they determine what times of day they would pull and how long is the black out timeframe on ImageWay set at?
A: Our item processing center established the schedule to fit their production runs. I don't know if we have a black out timeframe on the Imageway server.
Q9: In Imageway do you run the reports manually or have you been able to set them up to run automatically?
A: My department does not pull any reports from the Imageway server. Our item processing department can log on to the server and view files.
Q10: In ImageWay is there a report that lists all transaction details, not just ATM totals?
A: The transaction details are housed in the files on the server and can be viewed.
Q11: How did the bank handle checking for proper endorsements? How did the bank handle 3rd party checks? How did the bank avoid kiting and depositing checks drawn off the same account being deposited into?
A: At present all deposited checks have holds placed on them and are subject to verification before the customer is given credit. This is part of the remote capture process that the bank has had in place for the past few years.
Q12: Did the bank consider offering check deposit only to avoid the BNA cost?
A: We looked and the bank has a surprisingly large number of deposits that include cash and we did not want to move those deposits to the teller line. Also, when we looked at enabling the machines with only the IDM we realized that this would limit the customers who could use the units. We also thought of having the IDM and the envelope depository but that could confuse customers and defeat the purpose of going to this new technology.
